Schuztengel von Jürgen Goertz

Very interesting fountain with quite a few different sculptures in it. The "Schutzengel" "Guardian Angel" looks really cool so I thought I would share it with those who may never get to see in person. This particular sculpture was completed in 2007. The church in the background is the Saint Laurentius Catholic Church which was built between 1745 and 1751.

Another photo with the star bokeh effect. This time I used a German Smoker (Raucherman) as my subject.

Howling Bokeh

So today I bought some black construction paper, some tape, a Fiskars Pop-up Star punch
 and successfully conducted a DIY project that allowed me to add the stars to this picture. So the deal is you  have to make a cover for your lens that changes what would normally be round circles into shapes. Fairly easy to make and they sell them online in sets with many different shapes.  So the setup consisted of some candles, a multi-color flashlight, my daughter's miniature ironing board and one of her little toys.

I originally went out tonight to get some shots of cool Halloween costumes but I couldn't pass on this shot. I used Photomatix Pro and Photoshop to merge and edit the shots.

Aperture Mode and F-Stops

I shot this with my 35mm f/1.8G @ f/2.2 with a shutter speed of 1/25s. I tried the Auto ISO and it boosted it up to ISO800. I made a few adjustments with Photoshop but only the sharp filter (unsharpen mask) and auto levels. The bokeh (background blur) on this lens is cool and I will post more pics when I get some time to create some new shots.

I took these photos while on vacation to Istanbul. There were many awesome colorful areas like these and I definitely have to go back once I have more photography experience because I missed some great photo opportunities. 

4TH of July Fireworks

So this was my first time shooting fireworks with this camera and this lens.  I shot in total manual mode on Bulb and stayed around f/13 for aperture. I found that these settings worked but I still need to fine tune it for next time.

Congratulations Spain

Spain played a great game which culminated in a 4-0 win over Italy. They won the World Cup in South Africa two years ago and now the 2012 Euro. Are they truly the best in recent history? I guess it depends on who you ask.

I took some shots last night after Italy beat Germany. Plus I was practicing capturing action photos where the subject is in focus and the background is blurred. I need more practice but I liked this one.

Just practicing some bracketing shots in downtown Stuttgart. It was a nice day with lots of clouds.

"Garten der schönen Melodie" - Stuttgart, Germany

Great little park in the hills looking over the center of Stuttgart, Germany. The clouds were perfect for me to practice my auto-bracketing function. This allowed me to upload them into Photomatix Pro 4.2 which merges the pictures and provides you various presets to choose from for the final product. I will definitely go back to beat the crowds to get some uninterrupted pictures.

B&W Test

Another photo of my test subject. This time I changed to B&W in the camera and adjusted it in Photoshop. I am having fun taking photos and I can't wait until I finish college so I can dedicate more time to it. But until then I will dedicate as much time as I can to honing my photography skills.

St. John's Church

We were walking by the church and I noticed that the sky had a nice tint to it and I showed my wife. I guess she saw the amusement in my eyes and told me she would see me later:) This was the first shot that I took. I have not adjusted it at all. This is exactly how the camera processed it. 

Practicing High Dynamic Range (HDR) Photography

Practicing with HDR and refining in Photoshop. This shot of the New Stuttgart Castle ( das Neue Schloss ) was a quick hand-held two shot HDR snap from my Nikon D5100. I need get the latest version of Photoshop in order to make better adjustments but I'm waiting until I get close to finishing my degree (Student Discount) because they might come out with a newer version by the beginning of next year.
